Just been said on talk bollocks that he is better known for that save than winning the World Cup .

Probably true .

Re: Gordon banks brown bread
Banks was more agile than Jennings who was a big lump with massive hands. For that save agsinst Pele has to be Banks for me.
Didn't see much of a You so can't compare.

Now if ever there was a man deserving of a minutes silence or applause at our next game.

Well before my time, but an amazing goalkeeper and it seemed an even better man.

RIP you true English legend.

SUPERB from Pele, C&P from Sky

"Pele wrote: "When you are a footballer, you know straight away how well you have hit the ball. I hit that header exactly as I had hoped. Exactly where I wanted it to go. And I was ready to celebrate.

"But then this man, Banks, appeared in my sight, like a kind of blue phantom, is how I described him.

"He came from nowhere and he did something I didn't feel was possible. I couldn't believe what I saw. Even now when I watch it, I can't believe it. I can't believe how he moved so far, so fast.

"Rest in peace, my friend. Yes, you were a goalkeeper with magic. But you were also so much more. You were a fine human being."

"I'd ask a moderator to amend tHE title to something more befitting an English football icon"

Boots, completely agree. I find that title extremely jarring when written about a man of Gordon Banks stature.
But what more do you expect from virmin like Collyrob.

RIP Gordon. You broke my heart that night when you stopped Sir Geoff's thunderbolt, but you'll always be one of my hero's.

Come on mods, change the title.

Probably the best goalkeeper ever RIP great man wish he had signed for us.

Re: Gordon banks brown bread
Can you imagine that in today’s football?
A manager passing on the chance to take a great player because he had given his word that he would sign a lesser one.

Greenwood & Banks - a couple of legends

RIP
